Novl. needs the "kick ass" kind of publicity/press to push its image(the stock will follow) and that just dosnt come out of a Utah image/mentality......there may even be resentment by those in Provo watching/dealing with those that got away to Calif.?? Based on my limited experience, I have found that Utah produces some great engineers and entrepreneurs, but preferably when there's still a technical edge.
If the edge wears off - Netware, Word Perfect - companies need to still be in synch from a technical marketing, enthusiasm and vision point of view to evolve and grow.
Enter Eric Schmidt.
Focusing energy on that maniacal quest for "the edge" is great, but, as we all know, too well with Netware, "the edge" can't survive if it comes with a mindset that has to retain the same maniacal control over what's created.
For Novell to win in on the Internet, NDS has to be freed from this maniacal control.
A new spirit must be nurtured, perhaps even a new division must be created. |
