RE: <I wouldn't say obviously, but I would say that the media (including tech media) works in mysterious ways to put a spin on an issue. Could be true then again could not be true. Only time will tell.>

Please don't conclude that I believe in media reports either. Much of what is considered technical reporting is written by people with no idea of what they are writing about. I have first hand knowledge of this because I have been briefing them for the last couple of months including some of the same reporters whose work ends up on this thread. Therefore the tech stuff often comes out jumbled as when someone is saying that the 10cm length of traces is causing trouble for Rdrams. The actual length is much longer than that as John Walliker has pointed out several times.

However, when Will Wade publishes: <There will be no more wafer starts for RDRAM until we can better understand how long it will take to resolve the Camino situation," said Avo Kanadjian, vice president for memory marketing for Samsung Semiconductor Inc., the San Jose-based subsidiary of the South Korean memory giant. "Any capacity that can be freed up will be reassigned to 128-Mbit or 256-Mbit SDRAM products. We will require some convincing before we restart any RDRAM production.">

I would believe it because Wade quotes Avo directly and Avo is in a position to know what he is talking about. Wade would not last long if he misquotes someone in a situation like this.

The story titled "IBM Says No to Rambus" from the May 31 Electronic News
electronicnews.com
is a whole different story since it only quoted "sources close to the company." I expect that the reporter did get some quotes from IBM people that made it sound like IBM was going to drop Rambus but the people making those quotes were not in a position to make IBM actually follow through so EN thought that they had a scoop but it turned out to be a bogus article altogether. And the people being quoted wouldn't even let their names be used. You may be interested to know that I criticized EN vigorously in the Intel thread at that time:
