Steve, remember the inventory valuation issue you had at the beginning of the year. I expect them to continue to be slow/unaggressive on the accounting side and miss the opportunity to show higher reported earnings sooner, as you illustrated. By the way, I see the numbers the same way as you do.

They will look at waiting until yearend as giving them a few months extra margin in 2000 to qualify the new fabs, being especially appropriate if there is any chance of selling the fab by yearend, and letting this major accounting step get the full yearend outside auditor review/participation.

I'd give 10 to 1 odds against a Q3 writedown. However, considering your professional expertise, now is the time to give Bruce a call, if you want to make a case for it.
