He's not calling for YHOO or AMZN to decline by 75%.

My interpretation has been that those names were included. BTW, he seems to really like UBID -- recent upgrade and new price target set at 55% of the previous one. He should have just remembered to remove all the references to the Accumulate rating in his reports. <ggg>

...the analysts wouldn't be so (relatively!) poorly paid.

Several million bucks a year is pretty acceptable to most people. Plus, depending on the firm, analysts can benefit by owning the stocks they recommend.
