George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and Abraham Lincoln were also great leaders.

The leaders you describe created environments of "compliance" and not "enrollment". Real leaders seek followship through "enrollment". Enrollment comes about when you share dialogue and find a common "vision".

Reagan did exactly that with a great majority of Americans by speaking directly to them. He awakened the spiritual element of the nation.

Today, many organizations and communities are adopting those leadership philosophies. Storytelling is becoming more and more used by CEO's and community leaders to describe visions of where we are going, and where the obstacles to getting there exist.

What I mean by spiritual element is the element which attends to cooperation, and encourages communities and nations to be constructed in harmony. Often nations require leaders to "heal" the country (bring it back from moral or financial bankruptcy) This is not about bringing religion into everyones home, or requiring that people chant mantras. But is about creating a sense of meaning and purpose and connecting the individual with the county and others. Reagan did exactly that. And the nations course was re-aligned in the process.
