This firm makes the technology which allows image and voice data to be stored on 3.5" floppy disks. It's become a standard with digital cameras and is being used for new portable digital voice and music appliances. The firm is working with SanDisk and Sony on new flash memory devices for cell phones and video games. It has also established relations with Hitachi, NEC, and Toshiba. The firm emerged from start up in 2H'98 and revenues in 1999 are forecast in the $22 million range. So its devices are in high demand. The uncertainty in this case is the size of this emerging industry sector and some mixed valuation perspectives. Comparables, SanDisk is trading in the upper half of it's 52 week range while SCM Microsystems is trading in the lower half. Pre-offering demand is reported as good and a moderate first day (20%-40%) is expected." 10/4/99
