Eric L: Thoroughly enjoying the discussion of tornadoes and when best to begin to invest in a potential gorilla. (In my experience, sooner beats later BTW.) The discussion has meat on the bones due to using Gemstar and Rambus as contrasting examples.

In rereading the Gorilla Game (the revised edition), I was reminded that in the Chapter 9 case study of Cisco, the author (who is Paul Johnson for this chapter) follows through on 4 tornadoes for Cisco. That there may be more than one tornado going on which a gorilla may be participating in may be worth considering in the ongoing tornado discussion. Since I was very much involved with concentrating my investing in "networking" in general in the early through the middle 90s (starting with Cisco in the summer of 1990), this all brought back clear memories and seems to me to be conform closely to what I remember happened.

Suggest those interested in tornadoes reread the Cisco case.

The reason I think it is relevant is that Qualcomm may well also be participating in more than one tornado right now. CDMA is the obvious one. But the wireless/internet nexus is another perhaps. And data is likely to be a much stronger tornado than voice in wireless IMO. All food for thought. Curious what you (and others) think?
