Traits such as loyalty, sense of duty, and honesty should be held in higher esteem than one's IQ, IMO.

And they are! Who cares what somebody's IQ is, unless it is a child at which point some sort of measurement is needed to determine curriculum (apparently). IQ has only some bearing on standardized college admissions tests, but certainly is not as important as the high school one attends, and after that, it becomes completely irrelevant wouldn't you say?
