Sounds all right for a two-way system. In fact, the dual north-bridge idea is what RCC uses for their workstation chipset, although they're using PC133 SDRAMs. But it's rather tough for four-way because of electrical concerns.

As for 840 Carmel, yes I guess they can be considered "RDRAM extenders." I didn't know they were "rejected" for servers, although if they were, I can imagine the reasons why.
