Dan,

Class act Dan. Let me tell you a little more about me and how I feel.
I have no particular personal reason to be bitter towards Microsoft at all. I don't characterize MS based on programmers or managers that you or I know personally, because they are not responsible for the firm's business ethic.

Bill Gates and his top echelon are. Their reputation, and thus that of MS, is lower than any other major firm in the world IMO. It doesn't matter how many fine, decent people they have working for them as long as they run the business they way they do. That includes theft (from STAC), that includes proven, demonstrated dishonesty and behind the scenes bullying to stifle competition (SoftBank/Reiswig), that includes buying shelf space
from London Drug to stifle competition by keeping it off the shelves, that includes breaking competitive products (or worse, threatening to break them), that includes a whole long list of disreputable actions and practices over a number of years.

I stand by my take on MS, but I acknowlege that many decent people work there. Too bad they are not at a level to influence the firm's behavior.
