Putting the last week's brouhaha aside

The following article describes the infrastructure niche that Mirror-Image is contending in. Mentions other vendors in the cache content delivery service space.

internetworld.com

Upon review of the Akamai and Sandpiper Web sites, I get the impression that they both are deploying hundreds of INTEL servers while Mirror Image has chosen to go with the more scalable larger SUN servers. As any engineer knows there are several ways to solve the same problem.

The cache content distribution arena appears to be the next hot Internet infrastructure wave. Cache techniques are not "rocket science" ideas. Caching or buffering techniques have been used for over 25 years to make operating systems and storage systems perform significantly better. Now old techniques and newly developed proprietary algorithms are being applied to reduce Internet bandwidth.

E-business will use these services to reduce the hardware costs at Web data centers and provide the potential customer ,using a Browser, with a more consistent response time. Hopefully this translates into a pleasurable time at the Web site and increased commerce. For the heavy hit WEB sites this is a no brainer!!!!!
