RE the TV show, Y2K: Ready or Not
I did some research before I posted. I searched the AT&T site, both ABC and its affiliate, ZDNet because their Y2K director was featured, the Cassandra Project, whose originator was featured, several TV sites, and a general Web search. Couldn't find out a thing. I even checked the phone number I posted in a reverse phone directory. Couldn't find it. Odd for a show that was so well done.
Looks like the other viewers saw it much as I did. One of the interesting things about the show was that it interviewed a variety of people with a variety of perspectives, treated them all with respect, and left the viewer to determine what to make of it all. I had begun to think that respect for differing points of view and their proponents was an early casualty of Y2K.
Nonetheless, the show influences by the relative prominence of messages. If I had watched it not knowing anything at all about Y2K, I would definitely be buying a couple of weeks worth of groceries. On the other hand, I would have come away unconcerned about flying, not likely to take all my money out of the bank, and disinclined to buy a gun. If I lived near a chemical plant I would be concerned. Also, if I lived in the great, frozen middle of North America and had no independent source of heat, I'd be heading south, or at least west to Vancouver.
