Millennium Pharmaceuticals Identifies A Key
Mediator of Allergic Immune Response

-- Molecule Plays a Crucial Role in Both Cellular and Antibody Induced Allergic Inflammation --

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc (Nasdaq: MLNM - news) today announced
the identification of the T1/ST2 receptor as a molecule that is required for the T helper cell type-2 (Th2) mediated lung mucosal
immune response. Data relating to the identification and function of the receptor protein appear in today's issue of the Journal of
Experimental Medicine.

The findings, described in a paper titled ''Crucial role of the interleukin 1 receptor family member T1/ST2 in T Helper Cell type
2-mediated lung mucosal immune responses,'' were made by a team of scientists at Millennium led by A.J. Coyle, Ph.D. The
researchers found that the receptor, T1/ST2, which is known to belong to the Interleukin1 (IL-1) receptor family, is found on
the cell surface and is critical for the function of cells that secrete IL-4 and IL-5, primary mediators of asthma. (snip)
