I don't know about Intel but definitely that is something that comes across from lot of the Intel longs. I guess it is hard to appreciate the difference between what can be done with brand new core versus end-of-life core.

I remember Scumbria hammering down the importance of speed path work for a new core.

Going forward, other than MHz, the largest performance improvements will come from chipsets, IMHO, due to:
- bug fixes in Athlon/chipsets (removes the workarounds)
- chipset enhancements like PC133, AGP-4, dual-bank memory designs, etc
