Also, some GNET comments from Steve Harmon's email newsletter...
"Hi Steve,
I am basically a new investor, I took your opinions in January, and purchased, DCLK, GNET, CMGI and later CNET ... I have done very well with these stocks, particularly DCLK - 287% return, and GNET - 325% return. Now I am wondering, what are your thoughts. I am concerned about GNET, and what I've read of late.
Do you feel it is wise to hold into the New Year and beyond, or let go at a profit, and possibly repurchase the end of December when the market will probably bottom out. I would be forever grateful for you opinions. I am a huge fan and value your thoughts
=>reply: I cannot tell you what you should or shouldn't so, that's up to you. My philosophy is to invest in businesses with long-term potential. Now with Go2Net I liked its aggressive attitude and management last year and promptly added it to my hotlist for 1999. Shortly after I was surprised to see Paul Allen invest for one-third of GNET, reaffirming my beliefs.
I like the fact that Paul invested. But before that and more so I am a fan of Go2Net because it has assembled its properties into a meaningful whole. It moved into the top 10 Web networks in the world as ranked by Media Metrix recently. Just added some more seasoned management to expand its small business effort and international.
Eventually I have to wonder if Paul Allen won't make Go2Net the front door to his Wired World, wrapping Charter and other properties into a true sphere. As for market timing, you suggest December may bottom. That nobody knows, no more than they know how to predict which color NBA star Dennis Rodman will dye his hair next. |
