Well, if there's any consolation the volume was up :)

OK, so I listened to the conference call. Interesting stuff but nothing monumental. They did indicate some good news - for instance, their Caching product is selling provided a would-be buyer gets a test system or demo to confirm Novell's product actually can play with the high-priced UNIX boxes currently sold into this marketspace.

Also, Single-Sign On is catching on in a big way. They expect to produce (or have on demand) some 100 "connectors" (software that integrates Single-Sign-On and NDS with various application(s)). The estimated time to produce a "connector" was pegged at a few days to a week. I'm expecting to hear some news regarding this from a resellersor integrators standpoint. Seems a company with some development resources could score well with this.

Some other news which is encouraging, Dr. Schmidt mentioned tomorrow's announcement indicating a product that will include instant messaging (AOL Deal), email (MyRealBox demo?) and personal identity all wrapped in a nice product. Should go well :)

He also states he's looking to find more partners/alliances in the internet arena. Most likely in places where Novell doesn't currently have it's products placed. Also, they are looking to develop better relationships with those companies they (Novell) deem "internet" companies.

This was a good thing. As an investor who recently doubled his position I'm feeling better right now than I did around Noon today when the window next to my desk looked like a good place for a walk (just kidding). I was also encouraged by Dr. Schmidt's explaination of why Slitz "moved on" - they had a disagreement on the direction of Novell's new and upcoming products.

As for Mr. Stone and Ricart's departures, as it was said, it's a very fertile venture capital landscape out there and anyone with a good vision, some solid people to trust behind them can do just about anything they want. Even if you discount the $$ factor, being in charge is everyone's dream. Besides, I have a feeling that Mr. Stone is NOT wandering too far from what he knows and believes to be a "winner". I expect to hear about him and Novell.... :)

Well, time to get to work :) Enough of my thoughts for now.
