There are several ways to get a "feed" from a satellite broadcast. If you have cable TV access, DBC has a small unit that plugs right into your cable TV outlet and gleens data off their broadcast which generally is associated with CSPAN or one of the other popular basic cable channels. The high speed data is not visible to television viewers, just the box. Tick by tick data is available for everthing - the software that runs on the PC has built in alarm capability for volume alerts, price alerts, news wires etc. it is impressive. At the end of the day all price summary closings are also broadcast.
If you don't get cable TV, yes you can use a BIG dish, but I would wait and get the 18" dish that Echostar and Newscorp just announced that will begin carrying DBC's financial broadcast shortly. This was just announced last week.
