Walter, The multilevel patents center around the technology of engineering two bits per cell. This is a demanding engineering task with narrower tolerances. Also the write speeds have not been good enough to date to allow for use with digital cameras. It may be adequate for less demanding applications such as data or compressed audio storage. I believe these facts to be generally true and I recall them being mentioned earlier in 1998 in a press release. Anybody with expertise in this area is free to comment and correct any untruths.
