Great story. I had heard of the Roman chariot connection, and I think the NASA part, but not the rest. Although I have the feeling that there were not enough WAR chariots to rut any great number of highways. (However, it was probably also the same width as all of their other carts.) I believe actual WAR chariots were passe by the time of the Roman Empire. But their upper classes thought it was a neat form of transportation. Sort of like arriving at an important meeting in a Stutz Bearcat.
