Hi Tango, glad to see you are awake... :)

> Ascend does not plan to acquire any ADSL companies to get into the > business. They are doing it all inhouse.

>>>Where did you get this exact info. if I may ask ? Mory commented that they are developing a product plan for ADSL. Did he specifically say that they are not looking at an acquisition in ADSL ? <<<

Yes, I specifically asked the question and HE specifically said NO Acquisitions! He also said it was very easy for them to develop ADSL.

>>>>They are currently planning to go with DMT and not CAP!!!
Did he specifically say this too ? <<<

Yes, Tango, again, I specifically asked and he specifically said their current plan was doing DMT using chipsets from Alcatel. I have now confirmed that Alcatel does indeed have a DMT chipset.

>>> I remember him saying that they are currently developing a product plan for ADSL with products that would be available 1Q97. IMO it remains open whether ASND develops ADSL in house or goes for an acquisition. <<<

Well, unless he changes his mind, yesterday afternoon around 5pm he clearly stated they weren't going to do any acquisitions to get into ADSL. There were at least a dozen other investors in the room who heard him.

>>>Regardless of how ASND gets into the ADSL market, just the fact that ASND is seriously thinking about ADSL should be great for all the
xDSL stocks.

You are right about that. ASDN thinking ADSL is the WINNER technology says a lot as far as I am concerned.

>>>AND if ASND develops in-house then some other competitor (USRX, ADTN ...) would be playing smart to just acquire an existing
firm that begins to show +ve results in the trials (like AMTX, WSTL
or Aware).

Right again, competing with Ascend is a tough job and they would need the help.

>>>...Granted that the takeover would be pricey at this point but
this price will look like peanuts when the trial results/orders start
coming in. Also, mergers/stock swaps cannot be discounted.

True, the consensus from telecom companies is that there will be further takeovers. However, they all think that the 'premium WS investors are assigning to IPOs is making it very difficult for them to acquire at a reasonable price'.

>>>>IS there a way to get the text of the show somwehere ?? Also, where can one find a copy of the CNBC guest list on the Squawk box in
advance ??

My info didn't come from CNBC. Ascend had a presentation yesterday 4pm EDT at the Paine Webber emerging growth conference & I had a long list of questions to ask Mory 1st during Q&A and then the breakout session. I started out by asking "what is your post-ISDN era strategy"?... :)

Techie,

p.s. I am going out now (11:10pm EDT), if you have further questions I will be happy to comment when I return or in the AM...
