Your experience does not appear to be the same as most people. There is a significant sound quality advantage to the cdma systems here in Texas. It still sounds like a carrier problem; some systems are better than others. But, you are correct, the customer tends to blame the nearest available party--usually the phone maker. The carriers encourage this btw, because they hate to admit they have problems with their systems. Sometimes the customer blames the carrier, but very few people know the difference between tdma, cdma, etc. If they have bad luck with the Smith system, they just say "Smith sucks." The fact is that every carrier has problems with its system; not enough infra, dead zones, etc. A lot of it depends if someone happens to work or live or frequently travel in the problem areas of their particular carrier; they get an impression the system overall is bad.
