Merrill Lynch analyst, Steve Milunovich, put out a report today titled "Third Quarter Earnings Preview". EMC, Sun Micro, and our favorite, Network Appliance, were listed as companies that were most likely to beat the analysts' consensus estimates. Steve is "the man" in the computer hardware space and his comments carry a lot of weight. This would explain the movement in all 3 of these great companies.
