Bruce, I will explain in more detail so that there is no confusion. Simply put a Preturist believes that all or most prophesy has already been fulfilled while the futurist still sees the Second Coming as not fulfilled.
There are many verses throughout the New Testament that indicates that Jesus and the Apostles taught that the Second Coming of Christ would be in their lifetime.
For instance many say that Jesus command to preach the Gospel to every creature has not yet happened but Paul states in Col. 1:23 that "If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the Gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under Heaven; whereof I, Paul am made a minister."
Mat. 24:34 "Verily I say to you, This generation shall not pass, till all things be fulfilled."
Mat. 16:28 "Verily I say unto you,There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, til they see the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom."
There are many verses and prophesies found through out that prove that the Parousia happened in the 1st century. There are also historical evidence that prove this out.
My personal opinion is that you have to have a passion to know the truth of the Gospel and depend on the Holy Spirit to guide you in your search, because this can not be digested overnight until you have made detailed studies of the Bible and the 1st century writers and documents.
