BURBANK, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Time Warner unit Warner Bros. is teaming up with Brilliant Digital Entertainment on an animated Superman film for its Entertaindom Web site.

In its first big move to develop a 3-D film for online distribution, Warner Bros. (TWX: news, msgs) and Brilliant Digital Entertainment (BDE: news, msgs) will co-brand a 3-D animation channel, the "Multipath Movie Channel."

Warner Bros. is commissioning at least six Multipath productions by Brilliant Digital including "Superman: The Menace of Metallo," with other productions and titles to be determined.

The Multipath Movie Channel is slated to launch during the fourth quarter of 1999 to coincide with the launch of Entertaindom, Time Warner's entertainment portal.

The companies have also established advertising, ancillary product and e-commerce revenue sharing relationships.

Warner Bros. Online also secured an option to order up to 30 additional "Webisodes" per series during the second year of each series.

The companies will team up to feature 3-D animated advertisements or product placements within Multipath Movie Channel shows.

The 3-D animation provides more life-like images than traditional animation, the companies said..

"It delivers the excitement, interactivity, ease of use and speed of downloads necessary to satisfy the ever-growing mainstream online user" Jim Moloshok, president of Warner Bros. Online, said in a statement.

Brilliant Digital President Kevin Bermeister said the agreement will "dramatically increase visibility and awareness" for his company's content.

Shares of Brilliant Digital Entertainment rose 3/8 to 3 7/8 on Monday ahead of the news. Time Warner added 1/4 to 59 7/8.
