Dave and all,
Thanks Dave, love the smellovision. Have they perfected "smelliton wave" copper propagation yet?
Over on SilkRoad I noticed reference to, ah, Optical or light tweasers, I think? I lost the link, but more recently I read of same, but as used to create solitons in someones soliton research. Don't know if this might connect the two in any way- sorry for the lost link, but no kidding.
Why is an optical soliton important to our daily life?

Soliton switches in plastic/molecular level computing. See particularly: Soliton circuits- why, I'm not sure, it's not photonic at least-- its electrical conduction in certain plastics:

Perhaps a good book? "Soliton theory is an important branch of applied mathematics and mathematical physics. An active and productive field of research, it has important applications in fluid mechanics, nonlinear optics, classical and quantum fields theories etc." Also, I somewhere read the opinion that the mathematical descriptions of soliton waves are the most important developments in math. of this century. Bleeding edge...new wave equation solutions at SilkRoad, Bernard?

Can anyone suggest why solitons or soliton-like signals can't be propagated through a twisted pair copper wire? Non- linear waves in a non-linear medium? ACCHHH!, can't prove a negative, I don't suppose.
I can't find reference to solitons in wire, but could this man, Jack D. Robinson, with only a degree in business administration and lots of practical tech. experience, have tried and succeeded at something few if anyone else has looked at? A profile of him states in part: "Mr. Robinson served as a consultant to PacTel Products to locate and acquire new technologies and to manage external engineering teams to create a new generation of cordless telephones utilizing advanced digital technologies.
From 1982 to 1990, Mr. Robinson served as a Product Development Consultant to electronic manufacturers such as Samsung Corporation, Citizen Watch, Casio and Sanyo, to develop: miniature cellular telephones; modems; cordless telephones; pagers; TV tuners; telemetry devices; telephone equipment; and PCN/PCS systems.
Mr. Robinson has a BA in Business Administration (Management) from the University of Redlands (1979), and is based in San Francisco, California"
He also works in Liquid Crystal on Silicon(LCOS) micro displays, and other stuff including " to commercialize Light Emitting Polymers and other new technologies to create ultra-thin computer/television displays on flexible plastic;"

Here's what an NVXE company officer said in an interview Sunday night, as transcribed by a ragingbull.com investor:
ragingbull.com
Joe: "Where you headed there Rich? What's up in the future for the company?"
Rich: "Well I think in the short term we're going to prove the technology as I said it's been tested over three miles. The first, one of the first goals is to prove technology from coast to coast. Passed flawlessly for the test that's already done but we need to prove it to the industry, and prove it to the media. And then we kind of, could pretty much script our own, our own page for marketing and development from that point. ...in the mean time New Visual will continually be producing 3D content and content for the site as well. I know we just finished up a video that was produced by Dana Brown called "Game On" which is a paintball video that's really being popularly received and sold both at web based and traditional distribution centers, so New Visual's gonna continue on it's business plan till the fully launching of the site and the technology's proven. But once the ___comes together it's gonna be allot of work for both parties.
Obviously it be nice to get 51.2 megabit delivery through copper. What are the odds NVXE isn't pulling our legs? They printed this claim in an IBDaily Ad. Monday, p. a-19.
Finally, if anyone doubts the value of soliton based mathematics- which in some cases I understand have "infinite" solutions, I give you: cmpt.phys.tohoku.ac.jp
" Kink Soliton Characterizing Traffic Congestion...."...there is a kink soliton that can deform continuously, with the parturbation represented by the addition of these corrections. With numerical confirmation, we show that this continuously deformable kink soliton characterizes traffic congestion. We also discuss the relationship between traffic congestion and the slugging phenomenon in granular flow."
In case no one else is looking, I'll watch to see what happens with attempts of NVXE to prove their concept, and report if I notice anything- but I trust this will do for now. Ray, the interview mentioned a related possible future patent currently being perused in the NVXE legal dept.
