I'm surprised this thread isn't generating more interest. Maybe all these cerebral giants don't have time for literature or movies.

What about a discussion on authors? My favorite contemporary authors are Cormac McCarthy and Walker Percy. Or short story writers? Raymond Carver has to be at top of anyone's list. Or poetry? Gerald Stern is great. He has a poem about standing at his kitchen sink eating a grapefruit that is just wonderful. The ecstatic reverie he gets into just by looking out the window and eating his grapefruit, with juice dripping down his face, onto his arms, and off his elbow is life-affirming and uplifting, something rare in modern poetry.
