G, what do you think of Tivo? I bought it Thursday. I'm in at 33 1/2 and I'm excited. I wouldn?t be surprised to see the momentum gang push this one in a hurry. The whole idea of what they are doing is too cool, and too desirable.
I'll be back in CA in November and I'm thinking of ordering one so it'll be there when I arrive. Do you get any ideas about availability? Have you got one?
This type of product would be a killer app here in Australia. Commercials are the worst, volume goes up, 5 channels to choose from always leave most time devoid of interesting shows and when there is something good, there are 2 or 3 good things at once.
Go TiVo. This is the most impressive product idea I've seen. Hope it can live up to my fantasy when put into actual practice.
Best of all, they have a good web site, and you can click to buy equipment and services. I sent them a question and got a response in hours. I never could figure out why DD makers couldn't let people click and buy direct.
In fact, I had a conversation with M. Brown after a meeting several years ago and I really wanted to ask him why they couldn't make this product. I was too embarrassed to ask because I thought a product to work with a TV would make me sound like a flake. Anyway, who could have known a 20 gig hard drive could be so cheap 2 years later? Well, they are only getting cheaper and this can only benefit TiVo.
Next question, when do we get really functional portable computers and sound systems based on really big Flash memory? Seems like we are so close to down loading 20 hours of music into our car stereo using a bluetooth like connection from either our home LAN, or the gas pump during a fill up. How about time shifting the commercials out of FM broadcasts? Regards,
