They do watch charts; not only do they look for the simple stuff like resistance and support, etc., but many firms have proprietary analytics tools to show where they printed the most buys, sells and the like;

also, don't forget the heavy interplay between the options dept. and equities trading - as one gets nearer to expiration (particularly triple witch), you may see some issues with heavy derivatives interest bounce between, run for, and otherwise act like they dig the strike price(s).

P.S. TLC's 30 second play in a previous message gets an A-....wait....A. OK. Pretty much dead on the money, from what I've seen.
