A silver lining in IBM's areal density announcement was that the record was acheived at a track density of 67,300 tracks per inch. Supposedly anything over about 30,000 tracks per inch requires microactuation, which Hutchinson has patented. I believe currunt drives are running about 20,000 TPI which means it won't be long before this technology is needed. HTCH claims that microactation will be much easier than TSA since it involves inserting extra steps in the middle of the production process but not an entirely new process as was required by TSA. I would have to think this additionally pushes for more precise suspensions, something which plays into HTCH's strength. -Z
