Perhaps you should explain that clinics are widely available, but even when they are not, public hospitals are required to take in patients in their emergency rooms, and private hospitals are required to treat the worst cases, regardless of ability to pay. Also, most of the poor are covered by Medicaid. The persons who do not have health insurance are frequently those who elect not to, counting on their youth, or who are between jobs. I do not have the actual figure in front of me, but the number of people without insurance in any given month is about a tenth of the usually quoted figure, that is, between 3 and 4 million, because they are usually only without insurance briefly......
