Compare the economics of DSL and wireless v.s cable access.

The winner in that comparison depends a great deal on where one lives, but in most cases, I suspect that the small business would be better off with DSL and the home would usually be better off with cable. However, some telephone companies (US West, mainly) offer consumer DSL for the same cost as @home service. All of them offer it for about $10 more than cable modem service. So some consumers will find that DSL is a better buy for their needs.

There are so many different flavors of DSL that it's hard to make general comparisons, but it offers several advantages in some implementations. One example: I use a DSL ISP that lets me hook multiple computers to my line by using nothing more than a cheap hub.
