Sure, Shroom! GIC [and others] set-top boxes will run via cable modem or even digital cable, which uses fibre-optics. This will allow users to watch TV and access internet information simultaneously on your TV. . . and many set-top boxes will handle your phone calls.

The beauty comes down the road, when you will one day be watching the R-rated Ally McBeale . . and your kid walks into the room. . .so you push a button to flip it to the PG rated version. . .and watch it with them. . . while the score on the Indians playoff game updates in real-time in the corner and the stock ticker runs across the bottom with just your portfolio. . . or "dial in" the amount of violence or love scenes you wish to see in Steven Segal's latest action adventure. . . .and when you are done you can call up the latest Jewel record and listen to it through your stereo system, while you talk to your mom long-distance . . . . all over the set-top box, from the comfort of your favorite sofa, with a remote control keypad.

Most of that will be down the road a ways. . .but the basic difference is that new set-top boxes will be VIDEO oriented, whereas Web TV is merely TEXT oriented.
