But from all accounts there is only one Reagan, and the private Reagan is identical to the public Reagan. If that's true, and I think that it is, then there is a paradox. The only American president to have been a professional actor was the only 100 percent authentic person to occupy the White House since Harry Truman. In other words, he was never acting. What he said was what he believed, on camera or off camera, in public or in private.
