Creative Momentum High at Rare Medium Inc.: Internet Solutions Firm Adds 'Communication Arts' Award to Its Global Collection

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1999--

"1999 Info Design" Award Given for "Titanic Explorer"

Rare Medium Inc. (Nasdaq:RRRR) continues to set themselves apart in creativity with its most recent award from 'Communication Arts.' Rare Medium received the 1999 Information Design Award for the design and development of "James Cameron's Titanic Explorer" interactive CD-ROM in the prestigious magazine's "Interactive Design Annual 5."

Tim Barber, creative director of "Titanic Explorer," said, "We created a snapshot of the future with a product that combines the best of computer and television experiences in a new form of entertainment. It is a thrill to have our forward-thinking work recognized by a premier publication like 'CA.' It doesn't get much better than this."

"'Titanic' pushes the limits of multimedia software development by using the latest video compression codecs and an advanced object-oriented application that communicates with multiple relational databases," explained Barber.

The production features timeline-based browsing of an enormous range of historical background material and hours of high quality video and engaging interactive activities. From early naval travel, shipyard plans and the official maritime reports of the tragedy to the Oscar-winning movie, this documentary guides the user through the life of the R.M.S. Titanic. The production is factual and includes never-before-seen footage edited from the motion picture.

"The 'Titanic Explorer' is very rich," said Gong Szeto, chief creative officer for Rare Medium. "The innovative user-interface and underlying technologies give us a glimpse of what is possible in broadband Internet environments."

In addition to the 1999 Communication Arts award, Rare Medium also has received numerous awards, including: the AIGA Communication Graphics 20 Award; Cannes Lions Award for 'The New York Times'' "New York Today" Web site; One Show Silver Pencil Award for FOX Interactive; and a Silver Award in the I.D. Interactive Media Design Review, to name a few. In 1998, 'Crain's New York Business,' 'Silicon Alley Reporter' and 'U.S. News&World Report' also named Rare Medium Inc. to their lists of top Internet companies.
