NEW DELHI, Oct. 5

FOR budding authors who do not have access to publishers, here is some good news. Tata McGraw-Hill Publishing Company (TMH) says aspiring writers can offer their work online through their newly created Web site.

Bibliophiles planning to order the latest from TMH's Web site _ www.tatamcgrawhill.com _ will also have the advantage of getting the copy without having to pay anything extra for the courier that will deliver the book at their doorstep.

TMH has tied up with Satyam Infoway, which will host the site on a dedicated server, and Blue Dart, the courier company which will deliver the orders to the online customers, wherever they may be located in the country.

The Web site was formally launched here on Monday by Mr. N. Vittal, Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). It will host a wide selection of titles _ over 20,000 _ in the areas of business management, economics, engineering and technology, computer science, basic sciences and medicine, according to Mr. N. Subramanyam, Managing Director of TMH.

He said TMH proposed to use the Internet to enhance its reach as well as establish direct links with its target public, both readers and authors. A number of subsidiary sites would be added over the next few months, he told newspersons.

The Web site has some interesting features like a ``CEOs Corner' where top management functionaries can pick up reading materials that have been scanned and selected by a group of experts. Similarly, readers can have interactive sessions with well-known authors. It will also incorporate a dynamic search of over 50,000 titles, through links to the McGraw-Hill and other sites, enabling viewers to locate books of their interest, with merely a few clicks.

While novels and thrillers tended to get prominence in the present retail outlets, the Web-based service would bring to the fore knowledge enhancement books, which catered to the educational and professional markets also, Mr. Subramanyam said.
