Thanks a lot for the additional comments on
solitons. My familiarity with the topic is primarily
on the basic science side, and all the recent
technological developments you mention are
fascinating. In the mid-80s, the possibility of
using solitons for high rate digital communications
was viewed as far out. It is really interesting to see
many companies fighting it out to bring this technology
to market.
