"Tooling An Edge" er, i mean "Dynamic Rules" of games have always been my favorite.
Like Scrabble's no fun unless it's "law of the jungle" -counting any word, any language, any dictionary, pro lingo, medicals, slang & even *^%#$ words, etc. are OK Til Arguable (as in Browbeating), dontchathink? Spelling it out while keeping it to Websters Collegiate drains away the verve!
And "The Grub Game" is better than Jungle Scrabble! The plots and bragging and intrigues around it enhance it's fascination. Plotting it, getting it, hyping it, placing it in the Trophy Case, talking about it afterward, kicking back with a drink & a cigarette after it's over....Aaaaaaah. Auto-erotism, as U put it succinctly, yes.

As for the grub cons cheats & tricks... in the words of W.C. Fields.... "i'd rather be in Philadelphia if you can't cheat an honest (wo)man". Those no-stakes Grubs are a great warm-up for The Stock Market, The Greatest Game Of All!!!
