Check Point Software's SecureVirtual Network Architecture First to Secure IP Telephony; IndustryLeading IP Telephony Vendors Partner with Check Point Software

October 5, 1999 08:12 AM
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 5, 1999--Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. CHKP , the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that it is extending its Secure Virtual Networking (SVN) architecture to support quickly proliferating IP telephony technologies through the company's Open Platform for Security (OPSEC) Alliance. Check Point Software's SVN provides the security, QoS and manageability, as well as the low latency, required to secure all IP telephony traffic across the Internet, intranets and extranets. Major IP telephony vendors (listed below) are collaborating with Check Point Software through the OPSEC Passport program to deliver integrated voice and data traffic securely over any IP network.

Check Point Software's SVN architecture addresses three key areas for VoIP deployment: security, QoS and latency. Check Point Software's patented Stateful Inspection technology enables low latency connections by recognizing complex H.323 and proprietary VoIP protocols and sustaining the dynamic connection with high availability and performance. Furthermore, Check Point's integrated FloodGate-1 traffic management capabilities provide prioritization with other traffic and can prevent voice traffic from taxing network capacity.

Check Point Software works with leading IP telephony vendors that support today's open VoIP standards, ensuring high performance and delivery on QoS. Current IP telephony OPSEC Partners include Clarent Corporation CLRN , VocalTec VOCL , Shoreline Teleworks, Lipstream, PingTel, and Voxware VOXW .

"Check Point provides the necessary capabilities for secure VoIP deployment," stated Michael Howard, principal analyst of Infonetics Research. "Today, carriers and service providers are deploying VoIP in a variety of ways, and callers may not even be aware that their calls are undergoing VoIP processing. Check Point is making sure that security is just as reliable and transparent as VoIP transport."

"Check Point's OPSEC program allows our customers to benefit from a combined high quality and secure IP telephony solution," said Tom Kershaw, vice president market and product strategy of Clarent Corporation, an OPSEC Alliance partner. "By optimizing our respective products to work together, we deliver a truly best-of-breed solution for the enterprise."

"We see IP telephony emerging as an important application across enterprise and service provider networks," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of marketing and business development for Check Point Software Technologies. "Check Point's SVN architecture provides the industry's first VPN solution that enables secure, high-performance and manageable customer VoIP deployments."
