Why did Jesus create the holy Christian Church? Why did He anoint it and say that "the gates of hell would not prevail against it"? The Christian Church wrote the New Testament Scriptures under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The Church also decided which books should be in the New Testament. When we read the New Testament today, how do we know we are reading the inspired Word of God? Who declared that these books in the New Testament are inspired by God? The Church who wrote the Scpritures under the inpsiration of the Holy Spirit also serve to interpret the scriptures for those who are sincerely seeking salvation.
How can anyone claim to be a Christian and at the same time hate and the Christian Church?
Here is an example of the Church interpreting the Scriptures for a sincere seeker of truth.
Acts 8:27-40, the eunuch was trying to read Isaiah when Philip asked him, "Do you understand what you are reading?" But he said, "Why, how can I, unless someone shows me?" Since Philip had been filled by the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:4, he was able to explain the truth of Isaiah to the eunuch.
2Pet 1:20, St. Peter said, "This then you must understand first of all, that NO PROPHECY OF SCRIPTURE IS MADE BY PRIVATE INTERPRETATION."
I do not see how Paul could have said it any plainer than he did here. |
