Hi Sydney,

"Someone told me the computer would work faster
set to network server instead of set as desktop so I went in and changed it"

This was a well-known bug in Windows 95 where people switched the properties to either Network Server, Mobile computer, or desktop computer and attempted to gain extra system performance...Problem was that it didn't work. No changes were ever made to the system registry if this was done. Funny to see how people 'claimed' that their system was faster. <g>

I don't know if that problem was fixed in Windows 98...I would imagine so...either way, the main thing that is changed is the dynamic cache is setup during the Windows load. Extra registry tweaking is really needed to notice any sort of performance improvement or degradation.

I can't see how it would have anything to do with the mapi32.dll file becoming corrupt, but hey, it happens. It's the Microsoft Mail API DLL.

Question: What do you mean it's a Windows NT file? What OS are you running?

If it comes down to it, you can extract the .dll from the Windows 98 .cab files (assuming you still have the CD handy).
