It isn't in BLS' interest to buy QWST or any carrier. It was smart for QWST and USW to get together, but it wouldn't have been smart for USW to buy QWST! It is unlikely QWST will be an acquisition target since the USW deal. Also, it isn't in QWST's interest to be acquired. QWST has to start making the business go. To make it happen in the field provides the most stock appreciation potential, not buy-outs.

Further, it isn't in BLS' interest to shop for any carrier assets whereas this is less the case for the other Bells. BLS has to do what QWST has to do: grow their network and business internally. The stock shell game has got to stop.

BLS is running a pilot FTTD now. That's where they should put their dough. Do that and the world wants to rent your lines. They're premium lines because they aren't copper.

In contrast, consider buying a pile of wasting copper junk. Att did and the result was they couldn't afford to swallow new vectors like Excite!?. QWST needs to pay attention to those little details which sink enterprise.
