Your have it right Mark. These spin stands are a precision work of art and don't represent the real world working, i.e track seeking, disk drive but nevertheless the demo is very impressive. Your right - the next "fun" part is taking it out of the lab and into your disk drive.

As I recall, these demos have typically lead the production drives by 2 to 2.5 years.
