Disney's Go Network launches online auction site
PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct 6 (Reuters) - Go Network, the
Internet portal operated by Walt Disney Co. <DIS.N> and
Infoseek Corp. <SEEK.O>, on Wednesday will join the growing
number of online auction sites with the introduction of Go
Network Auction.

secure and more fun to use than many existing site.
The service will incorporate an automatic backup system to
kick in to prevent disruptions if one server crashes. It was
also designed with Disney's family-friendly image in mind,
requiring sellers to be over 18 before they list a product, and
screening text and images for offensive content.
Additional features will allow viewers to create their own
personal watch list of auctions so they can monitor them before
being an active bidder.
Andrew Hamel, General Manager of Go Network's Auction
Business Unit, said the company built the auction service to
expand the base of commerce opportunities consumers can access
from its site. Go expects 75 percent of all its users to use
the Internet to make purchases, and wants to help them make
those purchases without without leaving the Go Network.
