Red Hat 6.1 Flaunts Ease-Of-Use, Sun Star Office 5.1 As the Linux operating system market gets more crowded, veteran vendor Red Hat Inc. is trying to stay ahead of the game.
As first reported by CRN, the Durham-based software company will announce Monday the release of its latest upgrade, Red Hat Linux 6.1.
Version 6.1, which incorporates the Linux 22.12 kernel, features an easier installation, a choice of two graphical user interfaces, online updates and an update agent and failover and load balancing services for servers, according to Red Hat officials.
The upgrade also will incorporate Sun Microsystems Inc.'s office suite, Star Office 5.1, which includes word processing, spreadsheet, E-mail, database and Web publishing applications.
Red Hat's incorporation of ease-of-use, graphical features and the Star Office suite comes just weeks before Corel Corp. plans to launch its own Linux OS and suite. Michael Cowpland, Corel's top official, said Corel's Linux distribution will ship in November.... crn.com |
