Dow Jones Online News, Tuesday, October 05, 1999 at 22:46
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Bell Atlantic Corp. and 3Com Corp. will announce Wednesday a partnership to provide high-speed Internet service through retail channels.
3Com, which makes networking equipment, and telecommunications provider Bell Atlantic say they seek to make it easier for consumers to activate digital-subscriber-line service, or DSL, by selling DSL-related products at retail stores. DSL, which uses phone lines, is expected to emerge along with cable modems as a prominent consumer-oriented, high-speed Web access service in the next few years.
To outline the details of their DSL partnership, Santa Clara, Calif.-based 3Com (COMS) and New York-based Bell Atlantic (BEL) have scheduled a press conference for Wednesday morning at the Internet World conference in New York.
