Datron Systems Announces Satellite TV License Agreement With Airshow VISTA, Calif., Oct 6, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Datron Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:DTSI) has granted Airshow Inc. of Tustin, Calif. an exclusive right to manufacture Datron's DBS-2100 airborne satellite TV antenna for executive business jets for an initial payment in excess of $1 million plus undisclosed future royalties based on units produced. Datron and Airshow have had a joint marketing and production agreement to develop the market for satellite TV on executive business jets since 1998, and through their joint efforts have brought satellite TV to the business jet traveler with installations on Gulfstream IIIs and Vs, Cessna Citation Xs, Bombardier Challenger 601s and 604s, and Dassault Falcon 900s. Since 1997, Datron has received orders for more than 80 units to serve this market. David A. Derby, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Datron Systems, commented, "We are extremely pleased to have extended our relationship with Airshow through this license agreement. The initial payments will be used to continue our development of antennas that will bring high-speed, two-way, voice and data exchange to airplanes, recreational vehicles, buses and boats. "This agreement allows Airshow to produce the entire Airshow TV(TM) system under their control in a cost effective fashion. In addition, the recent announcement by DIRECTV Inc. of its DIRECTV AIRBORNE OFFICE CHOICE(TM) programming package for private jets, which includes more than 55 popular networks, premium movie and sports subscription services, will further increase the attractiveness of satellite TV to the business traveler. We believe the result will be an even more rapid increase in the business jet market for satellite TV than has been enjoyed to date." Dennis Ferguson, president of Airshow Inc., said, "This exclusive licensing agreement demonstrates our commitment to satellite television and high-speed data services. Having control over the DBS-2100 will give us much more flexibility and allow us to quickly take this technology to higher levels which ultimately will benefit our customers." Airshow Inc., which serves the corporate aviation and commercial airline markets, currently has systems in service on more than 130 airlines worldwide and nearly 4000 corporate aircraft.
