John Stanton, Voicestream Wireless Company CEO (VSTR, WCOM, FON)

VSTR got a boost on the WCOM & FON merger deal.

Three wireless standards.

VSTR spun off Western Wireless in 1999. Licenses in 22 of 25 largest US markets.

49.9% partnership with Cook Inlet Regional.

Coverage includes every state but CA & NV.

Largest shareholder – Hutchinson Whampoa Ltd of Hong Kong.

GSM – Global systems for mobile communications.

GSM is the world's most popular digital standard.

They are only one in US using this. Others use 2 North American standards.

Introduced with PCS technology introduced in US several years ago.

M&A Aerial Communications $3.3B & Omnipoint Corp. $5.5B.

Top Competitors: BEL, USW & VOD.

See GSN huge advantage as internet and wireless communications converge.

Only recently have licenses been released in US. Behind Europe because of later licensing.

FON & WCOM not really affecting them since they expect WCOM to concentrate on wireless for business.
