I guess that it was inevitable that ASND would eventually enter this market. If ISDN market penetration is going to slow down with the introduction of ADSL, then Ascend is doing exactly what it must with its entry into ADSL.

Considering Ascend's formidable stature with the RBOC's, I would say that any ADSL modem product that they develop would have to be considered a serious threat to AMTX's success.

At this juncture it seems that the whole question of AMTX's success depends on what the RBOC's have in mind for the timing of the mass introduction of ADSL into the marketplace vis a' vis Amati's capability to ramp up production.

If we are betting on a successful Amati, the best news that we could hear in the near term would be that of a successful test result combined with news on financing and production.

Is Ascend entering too late? I think that the answer to that is probably no. What are your thoughts?
