Interesting author of the site....he sounds familiar to me(gg). Although I'm still chewing on his favorite links. Here's a tidbit:

Air-dried smears should airdry as fast as possible. If after you have finished your smearing, you see a slide that is not dry, wave it around in the air. Never send a wet specimen that is supposed to be airdried. It will be useless. Smears - Do not crush the specimen. Simply hold your spreader slide at 90 degrees to the slide containing the material without any downward force as you spread the smear. Believe it or not, the weight of the slide is enough pressure for a good smear.
