Mohan:
Say what happened in U.P

UP is down for BJP.

excerpt
In Uttar Pradesh leads were available for 82 of the 85 seats at
1:00am. The BJP which swept the state with 57 seats in the last
elections, is looking shaky this time round, leading in only 29 seats,
down by 27. Serious infighting in the BJP state unit in the run up to
the elections between Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, who belongs to the
backward Lodh community, and upper caste lobbies within the party
severely damaged the party?s campaign. The Bahujan Samaj Party
seems set to emerge the big gainer in this election, it's leading in 14
seats, a gain of 10 seats. Last time round it had 4 seats. Mulayam
Singh Yadav?s Samajwadi Party which won 20 seats last time, is
leading in 25 seats, a gain of 6. The Congress which was wiped out in
1998, has re-surfaced as a presence in the state and is leading in 6
seats. UP which has the maximum number of Lok Sabha seats is
always crucial in determining the electoral fortunes of political parties .
